HMIS Privacy Policy PRE-ADMISSION SCREENING

Pre-Admission Screening/Mental Health (PAS/ MH) Services

The PAS/ MH process applies to individuals suspected of having a severe mental illness requesting admission into a nursing facility (NF).  In some cases it applies to individuals who already live in a NF and are suspected of having a severe mental illness.

The purpose of the PAS/ MH process is to identify all individuals suspected of having a severe mental illness through a Level I screening process.  Those individuals meeting the criteria for severe mental illness are then required to undergo a more extensive evaluation process known as Level II to determine if services provided by a nursing facility are required or inpatient psychiatric services are more appropriate.

If placement is made to a nursing facility, within 10 days of referral,  level of care determinations will be made.
